Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. They are regular contributors to a number of charities including many libraries and have been honored locally for their philanthropic activities. From legendary master storyteller Stephen King, a riveting story about “ an ordinary man in an extraordinary condition rising above hatred” ( The Washington Post ) and bringing the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine together-a “joyful, uplifting” ( Entertainment Weekly ) tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences, “the sign of a master elevating his own legendary game yet again” ( USA TODAY ). Stephen lives in Maine and Florida with his wife, novelist Tabitha King. King is the recipient of the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to the American Letters and the 2014 National Medal of Arts.

He has since published over 50 books and has become one of the world’s most successful writers. In the spring of 1973, Doubleday & Co., accepted the novel Carrie for publication, providing him the means to leave teaching and write full-time. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he continued to produce short stories and to work on novels. In the fall of 1971, he began teaching high school English classes at Hampden Academy, the public high school in Hampden, Maine. He made his first professional short story sale in 1967 to Startling Mystery Stories. Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947, the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. Something worth adding to your TBR (To be Read) list. This book will put a smile on your face and a lump in your throat – I found it very entertaining and nothing like the other Stephen King books I have read. Scott soon comes to see the prejudices they face and try to help. The two women, very different, are trying to launch a new restaurant in town, but the people of Castle Rock would rather stay far away from the gay married couple, leaving their restaurant in trouble.

Scott finds himself in an escalating battle with his new neighbours, a lesbian couple, whose dogs favour his front lawn for doing their business. He has no interest in becoming a medical experiment and decides to only tell his good friend, retired Doctor Bob Ellis. Strangely though, he weighs the same with or without his clothes, no matter how heavy his clothes are. Scott Carey is steadily losing weight, even if he doesn’t look any different. If you enjoy a quick read, that won’t take to long to get through, a book that can bring a smile, but still manages to bring deeper meaning, then this is the one for you. This book is gloriously joyful with a hint of deep sadness, told with a mastery unique to Stephen King. An engrossing, eerie tale about a man with a strange affliction who brings a small town together – a story about finding common ground in the face of ingrained difference.
